Who we are.
While many people have given up on church, and perhaps on faith altogether, we still believe the church, as imperfect as it may be, is the best answer God gives for establishing and expressing our faith. And that’s why we’re a part of this community; in this place, we have found God’s love and mercy, and have been inspired by Jesus to share these gifts with everyone, even our enemies. Now, that doesn’t mean we always get it right, but together, flawed and faithful, we seek to follow Jesus.
We believe the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:36-40) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) compel us to love God, to love our neighbors, and to encourage others to do the same.
We adhere to the historic teachings of the Christian tradition. You can find these teachings in the ancient creeds of the church, such as: the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed.
As a part of the Baptist tradition, we emphasize these practices:
-Priesthood of all Believers. We are priests to each other, or to say it a different way, in baptism, we are all called to be ministers.
-Shaped by Scripture. We have a high view of Scripture, and believe we have both the freedom and responsibility to read Scripture faithfully and seriously.
-Congregational Polity. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and through faithful reading of Scripture, we determine how to best practice the faith.
-Free Church within a Free State. We believe that religious freedom and the separation of church and state are necessary for the vitality of our faith and practice.
